Great Holster, but....
User: David Duncan, Jul 30, 2009
This is a great holster, and it seems to be the equivalent of the one furnished with the device. The belt clip is firm and reliable as is the ability to turn it around 360 degrees depending on how you need to carry it.
My only complaint is with the magnetic flap used to secured the phone. I understand that it is supposed to put the device into a "sleep mode", but I still get alerted to phone calls, texts, and e-mails. Also the flap is really a pain when youre trying to extract the device while driving. It is an even bigger pain when you try to reinsert the devise in the holster.
All in all, this is a great piece of work, but there should be a better way to build the flap.
BBY can do better
User: Steve H, Jul 25, 2009
After my last BBY leather case for my 8703e, I was perhaps a bit spoiled. That thing was all leather, lasted for 3 years, and went through a pounding without so much as missing a seam stitch in the leather, let alone allowing random keys to be punched while in the case.
After seeing this new case, I tried to talk myself into using the other one, but it just didnt fit well.
This new unit has elastic on the sides instead of leather, presumably to make it fit tightly. Elastic is the cheap alternative to a product that is actually designed well. The result is that the leather front and back collapse on the phone, subjecting it to external pressures.
Carry this in your pocket or just bump into something and keys will be pressed. This also means more stress on the phone itself and possible reduced life expectancy of the phone.
With the other case, one hand could flip the very sturdy top and grab most of the phone. You can get the phone out with one hand on this one but its more clumsy. You cant just grab the phone, you have to extract it with your thumb and finger. Its a dropped phone, waiting to happen.
Instead of a lid, it has what amounts to a strap with a cheaper magnet in it. This strap allows both top corners of the phone to be exposed, sticking out and waiting to get knocked.
The price is cheaper than I paid for the old one several years ago. But so what. The extra $12 to secure my phone and not have to mess with a cheap elastic version is well worth it.
All that said, it is an attractive case and not something you would be embarrased to pull out and put on the table in front of your work associates. This is a nice middle=quality case. Lets just get another one that really does whole job and doesnt scrimp on quality.
