The OtterBox Defender Series case for the BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860 is overall one bada$$ case. It offers extreme protection from the harshest conditions and will certainly survive pretty much anything you can throw at it. The case itself is comprised of an inner hard shell and an outer silicone cover, giving it two layers of "you can scratch this" protection. The built-in screen protector is pretty sweet too although I did find it hard to type at times.

Ive been a long time OtterBox consumer and one of their biggest proponents. I have an OtterBox on my Playbook, i had a Defender case on my Bold 9650, and i own several other OtterBox travel cases. This is the only one i havnt given 5 out of 5.

The fit of the hard case to the phone is excellent. The rubber adds protection to the phone i havnt seen from any other case. The fit of the phone into the belt clip is secure and i have no worries about the phone falling out of the belt clip, or the belt clip failing.

For a user that carries their phone in an industrial environment, or is a "rough handler" of their phone, i would VERY highly recommend this case!!

BUT...

The fit for the screen protector isnt up to the standard im used to for the Defender product line. The bottom edge of the film (near the buttons) is several millimeters from the surface of the phone. This leads to issues with the soft buttons and typing in portrate position.

My solution to this was to remove the screen protector from the case and install a film protector on the phone. The screen protector on the case was easy to remove without any tools, and the film protector i applied didnt interfere with the fit of the case.

If they can figure out how to fix this screen protection issue, its a SOLID 5 stars out of 5. IF youre willing to go to the trouble i did of removing the film and appling one to the phone..its a 5 stars out of 5..but as its sent, the best i can offer is a 4 of 5.

Bought this for my new BBerry Torch 9850 for phone protection plus the integrated belt clip. Fits great, feels like its bulletproof. Like other reviews, the screen protector could be better. Also slight interference at the bottom of the keyboasrd when typing in landscape mode. No real complaints. OtterBox is the best protection for mobile/smart phones hands down. Also great service from Crackberry.

Great case, but a poor built-in screen protector

I adore the case, but the built-in screen protector performs poorly. For one, it doesnt cover the entirety of the front of the phone, which is fine in itself, but when you couple this with the fact it bows a little and does not sit flat on the screen, this opens up the door for all kinds of pocket lint and debris to tuck itself in between the screen and the inside of the screen protector. That alone is reason enough for otterbox to rethink this design, but the bowing screen protector heavily affects functionality of the touchscreen also, making it very dificult to use the phone at all.

Fortunately, the screen protector is fairly easy to remove. Its hot glued to one of the inside plastic parts of this case and was taken off without any trouble. I then purchased an inexpensive adhesive screen protector and I was good to go!

Cons: screen protector and case make it difficult to press edges of screen sometimes

Very nice case, heavy duty belt clip, only downside is the screen protector is open along bottom allowing dust in and case sometimes make it difficult to press edges of screen with thumb when trying to type fast typing in portrait, all in all, very nice case, worth the price
